In Conversation with the Authors ~ “Help! My Kid Won’t Go to School!”

Join authors Katie Fowle and Sharoya Ham for a unique learning opportunity as counselors come together to share stories and discuss key takeaways from their book Help! My Kid Won’t Go to School. This engaging event fosters interactive discussions that enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of school refusal.

Objectives:

  • Identify and share favorite passages and key takeaways from the book.
  • Discuss cases of school refusal within your school context and identify key triggers for those students.
  • Examine school refusal from a parent's perspective.

Pre-requisites: 

  • Attend the ISCA webinar on November 27, 2024 @ 2:00-3:00PM UTC with Katie and Sharoya; if you are unable to attend, watch the recording. Register here.
  • Read the book (takes approximately 1-hour to read) before the "In Conversation with the Authors" 90-minute book club on February 4, 2025.

Speakers:

Katie Fowle

Katie Fowle, M.Ed, is a dyslexia specialist and co-founder of Global Village Tutors. She’s empowered hundreds of students through high-impact tutoring and social-emotional skill-building. Despite her professional success, Katie struggled as a mom when her daughter refused to get out of bed to go to school. Katie shares her story to encourage parents and inform educators.


Sharoya Ham

Sharoya Ham, M.Ed, is an international parent coach and founder of Embrace Behavior Change. She has a Master's in Special Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis. Sharoya has lived in seven countries and helped families overcome school refusal across five continents, demonstrating the global applicability of her methods
